Introduction

For a period of time after the establishment of the International Olympic Committee, Paris served as its headquarters. However, in 1915, in order to ensure that the Olympic movement was not affected by the war, Baron Pierre de Coubertin relocated the headquarters to Lausanne, Switzerland. Since then, Lausanne has become inseparable from the Olympic movement. In 1982, the International Olympic Committee officially declared Lausanne as the "Olympic Capital", and on December 5, 1993, it declared Lausanne as the "Olympic City".
