Introduction

The old city of Bern is located on the banks of the Aare River and was built in 1191. The city is situated on a small hill surrounded by the river on three sides and has experienced fires and reconstructions. Most of the buildings are 18th-century sandstone constructions, preserving their medieval appearance. Today, the ancient city is integrated with the modern city and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling along the banks of the Aare River, visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of the Alps. The streets are paved with cobblestones and decorated with fountains. The combination of traditional houses and modern shops creates a lively and interesting atmosphere.
