Introduction
The Ariana Museum, dedicated to ceramics, is adjacent to the United Nations Palace and can be seen from there. The museum was built in 1877 and took ten years to complete. It is the only museum in Switzerland dedicated to ceramics. Originally a private art exhibition hall owned by Gustave Revilliod, named after his mother Ariana, the museum was later bequeathed to the government. The grand building has exhibition halls on two levels, supported by spiral black and white marble columns. The museum's collection includes 20,000 ceramic and glass products from around the world spanning seven centuries, displayed by age and characteristics, and also has a Chinese porcelain exhibition room.
