Introduction
Tyska kyrkan, located in the historic center of Stockholm's old city, is a historic church named after the German community that gathered there in the Middle Ages. Throughout its long history, German immigrants in Stockholm lacked their own place of worship. It wasn't until 1571, when King John III of Sweden approved the construction of a church specifically for Germans, that Tyska kyrkan was established as one of the earliest German churches outside of Germany. Above the entrance to the church is an inscription in German promoting reverence for God and respect for the king. Address Svartmangatan 16, 111 29 Stockholm
