Introduction
Rovaniemi attracts many tourists, mainly to visit Santa Claus Village. The village is located within the Arctic Circle, about 8 kilometers from Rovaniemi. While Santa Claus is the area's biggest draw, the village itself offers many activities such as small sleds for children and a Santa Claus post office, allowing visitors to enjoy a unique experience.
Rovaniemi and the Arctic Village are Santa Claus' historical homeland. In 1927, Finland and the former Soviet Union established the border leading to the Arctic Ocean, known as "Ear Mountain." According to legend, the imagination of a Finnish storyteller was sparked, who said that Santa Claus and 20,000 reindeer lived on this mountain. Santa Claus had "ears" that allowed him to hear the voices of all the children in the world. This romantic but interesting inference gained wide recognition, and Ear Mountain became Santa Claus' homeland. The Arctic Village was established after a visit to Finland by US First Lady Roosevelt, and Finns built the village, which includes a map signboard, shops, post office and commemorative plaque, while providing beautiful natural scenery and unforgettable Northern Lights, giving visitors a unique experience. In addition, Santa Claus' office is located in a corner of his workshop, cared for by elves in red hats, who handle mail and phone calls from around the world. Opening hours The opening hours of Santa Claus Post Office are 10:00-17:00 from January to May and September to November, and 9:00-19:00 from June to August and December.
