Introduction

Thousands of years ago, the Phocaeans of Greece chose Castle Hill as the center of their commercial trade, thus founding the city of Nice. Today, although Castle Hill is no longer an important fortress of the ancient and medieval city, it still retains a small amount of city walls. As a botanical garden and park, Castle Hill is now a must-visit place for people to enjoy the sights of Nice and its surroundings, including a stunning artificial waterfall, the ruins of an 11th-century cathedral, and beautiful mosaic floors. To get there, visitors can choose to take the elevator (located on Rue des Ponchettes), walk up Rue Rossetti, Montée Monica-Rondelluy, or Rue Catherine Ségurane.
