Introduction
In the city of Irkutsk, Russia, stands a sacred Kazan Cathedral. The Kazan Virgin is the patron saint of the Russian people, and the Kazan icon of the Virgin is one of the most revered icons in Russian Orthodox Church. For centuries, cities in Russia have had Kazan Virgin cathedrals, which are seen as protectors of the people. This cathedral, located in the outskirts of Irkutsk, used to be a residence for the workers. Therefore, every morning they had to go to the city for worship and then return to the construction site. To solve this problem, the government began construction of this cathedral in 1885, which was completed in 1892. The cathedral is decorated in the Russian Byzantine style and is one of the most beautiful churches in Irkutsk, jointly completed by numerous famous icon painters, silversmiths, gilders, and sculptors. Among Russian cathedrals, it ranks third (with the first being the Cathedral of St. Basil in Moscow's Red Square and the second being the Church of the Savior on Blood in St. Petersburg).
