Introduction
The Chinese University of Hong Kong is a public research university located in Shatin, Hong Kong. It was founded on October 17, 1963, and is the second university in Hong Kong and the only university that adopts a collegiate system. It traces its origins to three earlier colleges, which can be traced back to 1949, and the predecessors of these colleges were originally established universities in mainland China. The establishment of CUHK broke the tradition of the British Empire establishing only one university in its colonial territories and ended nearly 500 years of colonial rule. Since then, the university has continued to develop and diversify, with multiple faculties and colleges being established. Its establishment also sparked the "Chinese Language Movement" in Hong Kong in the 1970s and successfully ended the monopoly of English in official language, carrying significant historical significance.
