Introduction

In the ancient port of Havana, there was once a thick iron chain used to manage the ships passing through the canal, connecting the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro and the Castillo de la Punta. In 1762, the British captured the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro and, after a year of fierce resistance, the fortress finally fell into enemy hands. A year later, although the Spanish government obtained the return of Havana through the province of Florida, they realized the need to further strengthen their defense capabilities to prevent the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro from falling again. So, in 1763, they built the Fort of San Carlos de la Cabaña. The Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro lost its fortress function and was used as a prison, and today it has become a lighthouse.
