Introduction

Borobudur, also known as "The Buddhist Temple on the Hill", was built between 750 and 850 AD. It is one of the ancient wonders of the Eastern world, along with China's Great Wall, India's Taj Mahal, and Cambodia's Angkor Wat. The name is thought to come from the Sanskrit word "Vihara Buddha Ur", meaning "Buddhist monastery on the hilltop". Borobudur consists of six square platforms and three circular platforms, with a total of at least 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated in perforated stupas. However, Borobudur was buried under volcanic ash for nearly a millennium until it was cleared in the early 19th century. Today, the Borobudur complex has a square dimension of 118 meters and rises to a height of 35 meters above the ground, still exuding grandeur and magnificence.
