Introduction
Chowrasta Square is located at the top of Darjeeling Hill and is a popular gathering place for backpackers. It is also a must-pass route for tourists heading to other attractions. The central square features a small fountain and stable where visitors can ride horses to enjoy the views of the hilltop. The surrounding restaurants, tea shops, and handicraft shops are great places to shop and purchase Tibetan and Nepalese-style shawls, blankets, and handicrafts. The square is home to two famous state-run tea shops, Golden Tips Tea Cosy and Nathmull's Tea Cosy, as well as the largest Oxford bookstore in the area. In the evening, there are often local folk cultural performances on the makeshift stage, which can be watched for free. The square is a landmark and transportation hub in Darjeeling.
