Introduction

The Johannesburg Botanical Garden is located in the Emmarentia area, about 6 kilometers from the city center. Since its opening in 1964, the garden has grown to occupy 125 hectares, with over 10,000 rose bushes and 30,000 trees. Locally, it is also known as the "Rose Garden". The garden is divided into different themed sections, such as the Shakespeare Garden, Terrace Rose Garden (with multiple ponds and fountains), Herb Garden, Bird Island, picnic areas, and dog-walking zones, among others. Additionally, the garden is connected to the Emmarentia Dam to the east, creating a beautiful scenic area. Visitors can also see a monument in the rose garden commemorating the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Huguenots in South Africa.
