Introduction
Cape of Good Hope, located at the southwestern tip of the African continent, is famous worldwide and is only 2 kilometers away from Cape Point. It is situated at the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean, and is one of the "Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserves" in the Table Mountain National Park. Despite being within the same national park, Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point are two different places.
Good Hope Cape is a landmark of Cape Town and even the reason why Cape Town was built. In the 16th century, due to the blockade by the Arabs, the east-west traffic was hindered. European countries dispatched fleets to search for new routes in order to obtain luxury goods such as silk, porcelain, and spices from Asia. The route around the southern tip of Africa was undoubtedly one of the most important. Before the construction of the Suez Canal, it was the only way for Europe to reach Asia. Therefore, Good Hope Cape has special significance in maritime history and trade history. Even today, some giant cargo ships choose to pass through the Cape of Good Hope because they cannot pass through the Suez Canal.
The ocean currents around the Cape of Good Hope collide, creating continuous huge waves throughout the year. Therefore, the first European to arrive here, Diaz, called it the "Cape of Storms." But bypassing here meant reaching the East and gaining wealth. Therefore, the King of Portugal renamed it the "Cape of Good Hope."
Today, the Cape of Good Hope National Park has become a world-famous tourist destination. Countless tourists visit here every day and take photos at the Cape Point sign to commemorate their visit. Address Cape Point Rd, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa
