Introduction

Sandwich Harbour, located along the Atlantic coast, is a stunning attraction comprised of lagoons, pristine beaches, and towering sand dunes reaching up to 100 meters. It was once a deepwater harbor for sailing ships and is now a wetland and bird breeding sanctuary, home to thousands of bird species. It is one of the largest sand dune areas in the world, belonging to the Namib-Naukluft National Park and providing adaptation and protection for numerous plants and animals. Visitors can spot animals such as springbok, ostriches, black-backed jackals, brown hyenas, as well as marine life like bottlenose dolphins and Heaviside's dolphins. From July to November, there is also a chance to observe bottlenose and humpback whales. The highlight of Sandwich Harbour is its tidal lagoon, a vast body of water completely enclosed by the sand dunes and accessible only by 4x4 vehicles. The plants and animals here have adapted to the arid environment, while the water source of the lagoon enhances the ecological diversity.
