Introduction
Ait Ben Haddou is an ancient village built by the Berbers in Morocco. It is one of the most distinctive and well-preserved mud-brick fortresses, earning the title of "Most Beautiful Village in Morocco". The city, which developed from a trading post in the desert, was built in the 11th century, facing the Wadi River. It is adorned with numerous tightly-packed houses and fortified walls to defend against external enemies. Ait Ben Haddou is constructed using Morocco's unique red clay bricks, beautifully crafted in every corner, yet solid enough to withstand attacks. The old town still retains its intact historic buildings, attracting many visitors. Stepping into the city feels like entering a fairytale world, with the vivid red color of the houses giving it a surreal but authentic presence. The donkey rides and indigenous residents within the city are also popular attractions for tourists. In 1987, the ancient city was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, partly due to its appearance in films such as "Star Wars: Episode 1" and "The Mummy", which raised awareness among residents and the government about the long-term benefits of preserving the city for tourism and economic development.
