Introduction

Lake Nakuru is a lake located in the southern part of Nakuru town, and it is one of the lakes in the East African Rift Valley. Due to its unique water quality, it has experienced algal blooms, becoming a major food source for flamingos. In 1961, the government established Lake Nakuru National Park to protect and manage the lake and its surrounding ecological resources. The park is home to many rare species of animals and plants, such as flamingos, avocets, ospreys, cuckoos, kingfishers, starlings, and sunbirds. In recent years, fluctuations in the water level of the lake have had a significant impact on the local ecosystem. As the water level decreases, not only does the lake shrink in size, but it also reduces the food supply for flamingos, making it easier for jackals to prey on them from the water. However, as the water level of the lake rises, the local ecosystem has also experienced recovery and improvement.
