Introduction

This four-pillar and three-gate style archway is located in the north of Yitaimen, surrounded by ancient vines, and appears elegant and dignified. The arch is inscribed with the five characters "The Place Where Confucius Ascended", and was built in the 39th year of the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1560). The couplet on the pillars reads: "The virtuous king stands alone for eternity, the holy lord overlooks the prosperity for ten thousand years." There are two steles on the east and west sides of the archway, with the inscription "Self Must Ascend" by Zhai Tao, the magistrate of Jinan during the Jiajing period, on the east stele and the inscription "The First Mountain" by Li Fuchu, the governor and inspector of Shandong, on the west stele. On the north side, there is a "Tianjie" archway with two pillars and a single gate.
