Introduction

Hu's Residence consists of two ancient buildings, standing side by side. The southern courtyard was built in 1608, the 36th year of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli reign, while the northern courtyard was built in 1615, the 43rd year of the same reign. Today, the southern courtyard has a history of 395 years, and the northern courtyard has a history of 388 years. The southern courtyard has been renamed as the Tianshui Folk Museum, but the architecture itself remains an important part of the exhibition. Noted cultural relic expert Mr. Luo Zhewen praised it as "a rare group of ancient residential courtyards with typical Ming Dynasty architectural style in the country." The two courtyards are currently the most complete Ming Dynasty residential houses preserved in Tianshui.
