Introduction

The Baoxiang Public Cemetery covers an area of three hectares and is adjacent to the Baogong Temple. Bao Zheng passed away in Kaifeng, Henan in 1062. The following year, his son-in-law Wen Xiaoyu brought his remains back to his hometown of Hefei and buried him here. Bao Zheng held various positions during his years of service, with his highest being the Deputy Minister of Military Affairs, making him a second-rank official of the Northern Song Dynasty. Therefore, the scale and structure of the cemetery are built according to the funerary system of second-rank officials in the Song Dynasty. The entire cemetery is lush and serene. The main tomb is a "covered bucket-shaped" square tomb, with Bao Zheng's epitaph and his coffin made of precious nanmu wood placed in the tomb chamber. His remains are also contained within the coffin.
