Ba Qi Cave, A Subterranean Marvel of Nature

Pingyuan Village, Tanze Temple, Mentougou District, Beijing

Introduction

Baguodong is a deep ancient cave with a total length of about 1350 meters. The cave is known for its unique folded "8" shape and stunning eight wonders, therefore it is called the "divine cave wonder, created by heaven and earth". Historically, people often say "the Tanchazhu Temple came first, and then the Youzhou City". In the early Jin Dynasty of China, when Buddhism was introduced to Yanjing (now Beijing), many high-ranking monks spread Buddhist scriptures and doctrines near the Tanchazhu Temple. Therefore, there are many Buddha statues and images of monks practicing in the cave's wall paintings and carvings, making it extremely mysterious.
