Introduction

Located in the Qikou section of the Yellow River Great Canyon in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, the Yellow River Gallery, also known as the Hundred-Li Water Erosion Sculpture, is a precious natural heritage formed during the Triassic period. It is a natural rock carving wall formed by underground water dissolution and river erosion in the Triassic thick sandstone layer. Due to the large amount of plagioclase and quartz in the thick sandstone, the plagioclase gradually differentiated and decomposed through the action of water, river, wind erosion, and sunlight, while the quartz fell off from the sandstone to form various forms, such as stone grooves, niches, caves, books, and natural carvings of various animal forms. The Yellow River Gallery is located about 20 kilometers upstream of Qikou Ancient Town along the Yellow River.
