Introduction

Located to the west of Jiayuguan City's city tower stands a 3-meter tall and 85-centimeter wide monument named "Mighty Passes Under Heaven". The monument runs parallel to the north-south axis and its four characters reach a height and width of 59 and 45 centimeters respectively. The monument's origins can be traced back to the 14th year of the Qing Jiaqing emperor's reign, when Li Tingchen, a military general in charge of the defense of Sufu, marveled at the might of the Jiayuguan Pass and wrote the four characters with a brush. This inspiration was later carved on stone and moved to the left of a street in the eastern district of Jiayuguan and then relocated again to its current position 165.7 meters west of the pass, becoming a historical landmark.
