Introduction
Shouxian Ancient City, formerly known as Shouchun, was once the capital of the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The ancient city was built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with thick and magnificent walls that remain intact to this day. Outside the ancient city, there is still a ring of Song dynasty city walls, which have been repaired and used for military and flood prevention purposes. The Shouxian Ancient City wall is one of the seven best-preserved ancient city walls in China, 100 years older than the Pingyao Ancient City in Shanxi. The city wall has close ties to some legends, such as "deep affection for licking the calf," "people inside the gate," and "the snake swallowing the elephant due to people's greed." There is also a moat surrounding the city wall, with the northern part adjacent to the Huai River. Walking on the city wall, visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery. Inside the ancient city, there are orderly arranged ancient buildings, where local residents live, and visitors can feel the rich atmosphere of life while strolling around.
