Introduction
Wudangzhao, formerly known as Badagao Temple, is the largest temple of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is located in Wudanggou in the northeast of Baotou City and was named after the many willow trees that grow in the valley. "Wudang" means "willow" in Mongolian, and "zhao" means "temple". The temple was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, founded by the first living Buddha Lobzang Chokyi Gyaltsen. It was later renovated in the 14th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, and its scale gradually expanded. It is now a national key cultural relic protection unit and an AAAA scenic spot. It is on par with the four great monasteries of Chinese lamaism such as Tibet's Potala Palace, Qinghai's Ta'er Monastery, and Gansu's Labrang Monastery. Wudangzhao has a strong architectural style, with its outer walls being clean and square. The Sugqin Hall is the largest building, which houses the largest cast bronze Buddha statue. Every year on March 21, Wudangzhao holds the Spring Festival ceremony, where people offer Hada, burn incense, and present sacrificial offerings, as well as participating in traditional activities such as horse racing, archery, and wrestling. The number and level of cultural relics collected by Wudangzhao are among the forefront of the autonomous region's cultural relic collection, and the collected treasures are also rare in China.
