Introduction

Built in 1381, this pass is the starting point of the eastern section of the Great Wall of China and an important defense line of Beijing during the Ming Dynasty. The complete defense system composed of pass cities, weng cities, Luo cities, wing cities, outpost cities, and beacon towers makes it an impregnable fortress. Among the numerous dangerous passes of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty, it stands out for its unique construction and is praised as the "key to the two capitals, an unparalleled position, and the first pass of the Great Wall".
