Introduction

The Grand Hall, located inside the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong, is the main hall used for worshipping Confucius and is also the main hall. During the Tang Dynasty, it was known as the Hall of Wenxuan King and had five rooms. In the fifth year of the Song Dynasty's Tianxi reign (102 AD), it was moved to its current location and expanded to seven rooms. In the third year of the Song Dynasty's Chongning reign (1104 AD), Emperor Huizong Zhao Ji quoted a sentence from "Mencius" that said "Confucius called it the collection of great accomplishments" and renamed it the "Grand Hall". In the second year of the Qing dynasty's Yongzheng reign (1724 AD), it was rebuilt into a building with nine ridges and double eaves, covered with yellow glazed tiles and decorated with carved beams and painted rafters. The eight dou zaojing was decorated with golden dragons and seals. A plaque was erected in the center of the double eaves, with the three raised golden characters "Grand Hall" personally inscribed by Emperor Yongzheng. The hall is approximately 24.8 meters high, 45.69 meters long, and 24.85 meters wide, sitting on a 2.1-meter-high foundation. It is the tallest building in the Confucius Temple and one of China's three great ancient halls.
