Introduction
The Yanhe Bridge, located under the Baota Mountain, is an ancient stone arch bridge that inherits and develops traditional Chinese techniques. The bridge is 123 meters long with net spans of 30 meters for each of its three arches. The main arch uses a form of empty stomach arch supported by vertical walls, allowing the bridge to be light and strong. During the construction, the people of Yan'an used the "soil cow arch tire" construction method that suits the Yanhe River's characteristics, which greatly reduced the construction cost.
After completion, the architectural art of Yanhe Bridge received praise from many experts. Wang Zhanyi, a senior expert on bridge culture research, praised its well-chosen location, reasonable layout, beautiful shape, and exquisite craftsmanship, which complement the ancient city of Baota and the green hills and waters. Today, Yanhe Bridge has become a symbol of the revolution holy land of Yan'an and a landmark of the city. Many modern bridges have also been built on the Yanhe River, providing convenient conditions for the people and tourists.
As a revolutionary holy land of China, Yan'an still preserves over 140 revolutionary memorial sites. At night, the milky-white round lights visible on the Yanhe River, together with the spectacular Yanhe Bridge and the light decorations on Baota Mountain, form a beautiful and fascinating scene.
