Introduction

After the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the Atomic Bomb Dome located in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park became the only surviving dome-shaped building. Recognizing its important historical value, the building was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1996. The people of Hiroshima have made great efforts to protect it, and to this day hold annual peace memorial activities there to remember history and call for the preservation of peace.
