Introduction
Haleakalā National Park is located on the southern and eastern coastlines of Maui, and is home to the highest peak on the island, known as the House of the Sun. According to Maui's half-human, half-god legend, he once stood on the summit of the volcano to slow down the sun's descent, making the days a little longer. The park occupies 30,000 acres of public land, has three visitor centers, and offers a variety of natural environments, allowing tourists to adventure to the top of Haleakalā, hike through cloud forests, horseback ride through deserts, explore waterfalls and streams. Near the visitor centers, you can also witness stunning sunrises and sunsets, and enjoy the shimmering starry night sky in Haleakalā.
