Introduction
In Tianjin, there is an old saying: "First, there was Tianhou Palace, then there was Tianjin Wei." This shows the importance of Tianhou Palace in the hearts of local people. As one of the three major Tianhou Palaces in China, Tianhou Palace is the oldest building still standing in Tianjin.
Originally built as a temple for the worship of the Tianhou goddess, the palace was known as "the goddess temple" among the people. Due to historical reasons, Tianhou Palace has developed into a mix of Buddhism and Taoism, with many gods worshipped there.
Every year on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, the "Royal Festival" is held here with grand performances. The event features spectacular programs such as dragon dances, lion dances, Shaolin martial arts, gaoshan dancing, Buddhist drumming, dry boat races, diyangge dancing, martial arts, as well as Peking Opera, Pingju Opera, and Bangzi Opera.
