Introduction

Zhenhuai Tower is located in the center of the ancient city of Huai'an County, Jiangsu Province. It was first built in the Southern Song Dynasty. Later, during the construction of Huai'an City in the Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt as Qiaolou and became the bell and drum tower for night watch, timekeeping, and alarm. During the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period, it was renamed "Zhenhuai Tower", meaning to suppress the flooding of the Huai River. The current wooden tower was rebuilt in the seventh year of the Qing Emperor Guangxu (1881). The lower part of Zhenhuai Tower is a brick and stone platform, with an arched door in the middle. The platform gradually narrows from the bottom to the top, forming a trapezoidal shape. There is a brick staircase for walking up and down beside it, and railings surrounding the top of the platform. The upper part is a two-story wooden tower, with a width of three bays, a double-eaved Qing Dynasty-style roof, and a simple and ancient style. Today, the people of Huai'an carefully protect and decorate Zhenhuai Tower, making it more colorful. Tourists can take the 61, 62, or 63 bus to get there, and the ticket is 10 yuan. It is open from 07:30-18:30.
