- The island greeted the first ray of light of the new century at 6:42 am on January 1, 2001, shining from the east side of the island. - According to measurements taken by the Royal Greenwich Observatory in England, the first spot on the Chinese mainland to receive the first dawn of the new century was located in Dongfushan. - Dongjido Island is the best place to watch the sunrise, where you can visit the Sunrise Pavilion and witness the arrival of the first ray of light yourself.
