Best whale watching spots in Australia

During the period from May to November every year, you can witness massive whales firsthand at tourist spots near the coast of Australia.

Flinders Bay

Starting from early June, you can watch humpback whales and southern right whales frolicking in the waters of Flinders Bay in Augusta.

Dunsborough

Visit Dunsborough before September, where blue whales and their calves swim alongside bottlenose dolphins in Geographe Bay. Southern right whales, humpback whales, and minke whales also glide through the waters.

Freycinet Peninsula

Starting in May each year, you can see humpback whales and southern right whales gliding around in the clear waters of Great Oyster Bay near the Freycinet Peninsula. Take a wildlife cruise from Coles Bay to see them spinning along their ancient migration routes in the Tasman Sea.

Hervey Bay

Between late July and early November each year, walking near Hervey Bay, you might get splashed by the water from a humpback whale's tail. This is an excellent spot for whale watching in Australia.

Port Douglas

Take a boat from Mooloolaba to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast, and you will reach the whale watching spot within a 20-minute walk from the waterfront. If you want to get even closer to them, head to Port Douglas, where you can dive into the northern Great Barrier Reef to encounter minke whales. By connecting yourself to the boat with a rope, you can dive underwater and get up close with these playful and intelligent creatures.
