I think no matter what card or rented wifi, it is the best way to download offline maps in advance. Indeed, there is no signal on some AB-level roads, not only wifi but also no mobile signal. Same as the previous answer, using Google Maps is very useful, but to avoid no signal, I recommend downloading offline maps for some areas.
