Teatro Romano di Catania, Ancient Amphitheater with a View of the Volcano

Via Vittorio Emanuele II 266, Catania
4.1

Introduction

The Roman Theater is an ancient building that can accommodate 7000 spectators, and its lower structure is connected to the Amanano River, which has become a major challenge for using the theater. In addition, the rehearsal field on the west side of the theater is relatively small, but unlike the theater, the rehearsal field has a roof covering. This supporting construction is typical of the regulations for ancient Roman theaters, and the use of black volcanic rock as the building material fully showcases the characteristics of the Catania region.
