Introduction

Dashashwamedh Ghat is one of the main river ghats located on the Ganges river in Varanasi, India. It is adjacent to the Vishwanath Temple and is one of the most spectacular river ghats. According to Hindu mythology, Dashashwamedh Ghat is associated with two legends: one says that it was created by Lord Brahma to welcome Lord Shiva, and the other says that Lord Brahma sacrificed ten water buffalo during a fire ritual. Near Dashashwamedh Ghat, there is also an observatory built by Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1737, which offers a view of the Ganges.
