Lhasa 1-day Tour: Popular Spots around Lhasa City Center

If you only have one day in Lhasa, you can still leave the downtown area and explore the surrounding area. Here are a few key attractions for you to visit.

Sheep Lake

Yamdrok Tso, also known as Yamdrok Lake, is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. It is often called "Turquoise Lake" in Tibetan. The distance from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake round trip is less than 300 kilometers and usually takes about two hours one way. It can be a great experience to visit there with a cost of less than 200 RMB, as seen on some hostels or travel apps like Mafengwo.
Karola Glacier is located at the junction of Langkazi County and Jiangzi County in Shannan District, Tibet. It is one of the three major continental glaciers in Tibet and is the eastern head of the Nyachu River. From Yang Lake, it continues southward and diverges at Langkazi. You can see the huge Karola Glacier by driving less than 50 kilometers to the left. Since it is located near the G318 National Highway, it doesn't take much time to visit and you can easily make a round-trip in one day.

Nam Co Tashi Peninsula

Zaxi Peninsula, also known as Jixiang Love Island, is located in Dangxiong County in Tibet. It is the largest peninsula on Lake Namtso and the most important tourist attraction there. Zaxi Peninsula is also the most concentrated area for religious activities on Lake Namtso. The best time to visit is generally in March, April, and May.
