Introduction

Shikotsu-Toya National Park is located in Hakodate area and is composed of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Toya, which were formed by the eruption of Mount Usu. Mount Usu is still an active volcano, with its summit blown flat due to multiple violent eruptions. The natural scenery here is wild and primitive, with numerous islands in the lake. Some of the islands are connected to the mainland by bridges, allowing visitors to explore on foot or by renting bicycles. Large cruise ships are available for touring Lake Shikotsu, while boats can be rented for cruising on Lake Toya.
