Introduction

A three-story red brick building built in the 18th century, located in the southern part of Durbar Square, was the residence of the pre-pubescent goddess Kumari. The temple has three courtyards and is famous for its intricate and exquisite wooden carvings. Visitors are allowed to take photos inside the temple, but photography is forbidden when the Kumari goddess appears at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Every year during the Indra Jatra festival, the Kumari goddess rides a chariot within the temple and tours the entire city, praying for good weather.
