Sossusvlei, Experience the Majestic Red Dunes

Path to Hidden Vlei, Hardap Region, Namibia
4.8

Introduction

UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, the Namib Desert in Namibia is famous for its millions of years old unchanged red sand dunes. Every morning when the sun rises, the red dunes become even more spectacular in the first light, divided by beautiful ridges, creating the iconic images of the region, including the famous "Dune 45" and "Big Daddy". Climbing the dunes requires sufficient drinking water, sunscreen, and sunglasses. While the dunes are not very high, climbing can still be challenging, and when descending, one must maintain a backward position to avoid falling. The shadow side of the red dunes, known as "Sossusvlei", is a famous white salt flat, with the neighboring red dunes being the signature feature of the area. The closest campsite to Sossusvlei is the Kulala Desert Lodge, which is the only exclusive campsite built next to the red dunes in the Namib Desert region.
