Introduction

Udaya Fortress, built during the Almohad dynasty in the 12th century, is located on the east side of the old city of Rabat, adjacent to the mouth of the Bouregreg River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. It is an ancient complex of castle buildings. In the 17th century, expelled Moorish pirates gathered here and used the castle's strategic location to attack European Christian countries' merchant ships. The streets here are paved with cobblestones, the walls of the houses are whitewashed, and the doors and windows are painted sky blue. Passing through the earthy-colored city gate and entering inside, you will discover a romantic blue and white world. The houses are closely connected, the alleyways are narrow, some can only accommodate one person passing through. Almost all the houses are white on the upper part and blue on the lower part, with the white walls as clean as snow, and the blue comes in various shades, including royal blue, navy blue, and sky blue. The buildings here have been weathered by the years and are adorned with exquisite patterns carved into the low walls. The carvings on the doors, window sills, doorknobs, and street lamps are also unique. At the same time, the characteristics of Andalusian (Spanish) houses are also preserved here, and the house numbers are still in use today.
