Introduction

Mt. Showa Shinzan is located in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park in Japan and is one of the youngest volcanoes in Japan. The volcano erupted between December 1943 and September 1945, forming a steep mountain with a height of over 300 meters. It was selected as one of Japan's top 100 geological sites alongside Mt. Usu in 2007. However, due to cold temperatures and erosion, the mountain of Mt. Showa Shinzan is gradually shrinking.
