Introduction

Victoria Falls, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls, is located in the middle reaches of the Zambezi River in Africa, spanning the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is one of the three largest waterfalls in the world, measuring 1.7 kilometers wide and 128 meters high. In 1855, Scottish explorer David Livingstone became the first European to see the waterfall and named it after Queen Victoria. The local Tokaleya Tonga people refer to it as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning "the smoke that thunders." Victoria Falls is also part of Zambia's Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls National Park. In 1989, UNESCO listed Victoria Falls and the two national parks as a World Heritage Site, making it one of the most important tourist attractions in southern Africa.
