Around 1901, the Bar brothers bought a large piece of land in the Russian Concession in Hankou. The area included Dongyi Street (now Dongting Street) to Luojia Monument Road (now Luojia Mountain Street) from east to west, and Lierbin Street (now Lanling Road) to Lihuangpi Road today from north to south. They built a large isosceles triangle house at the intersection of Dongyi Street and Sanjiao Street (now Poyang Street), between Lihuangpi Road and Lanling Road. Construction began in 1901 and was completed in 1910. This is what people call the Bar House. The completed Bar House became a landmark building in this area of the Russian Concession.
