A travel guide to Wuyuan Ancient Village in Jiangxi

Most of the attractions in Wuyuan are ancient villages. What is the difference between them? These ancient villages have a history of cultural stories and are scattered with Hui-style architecture, such as the horsehead walls with white walls and black tiles. There are countless small and large villages. What are the places worth visiting in Wuyuan?

Likeng Village

A small river runs through the village, with Huizhou-style buildings on both sides of the riverbank. The villagers live within this setting. Although it has undergone several renovations, there are still too many shops along the streets, and the commercial atmosphere is too strong.

Jiangwan Town

Famous for being the ancestral home of former General Secretary Jiang Zemin, the village features well-preserved Huizhou-style architecture and comprehensive facilities. The village places a high value on Feng Shui, although there are many renovated buildings. Nevertheless, it remains a worthwhile destination.
Divided into two villages: Shangxiaoqi and Xiaxiaoqi, the village buildings feature intricate wood and brick carvings. The brick carvings used in the buildings are quite exquisite. There are many farm-style restaurants in the village, and numerous shops selling camphor wood products.
During the 'Rapeseed Flower Season', the Huizhou-style residences with 'black tiles and white walls' amidst the golden terraced fields are very spectacular. Every mid to late March, the rapeseed flowers bloom, creating a magnificent scene that is worth seeing.
At the entrance of the village, there is an ancient pavilion with an old poem: 'In the empty mountains, hidden and lying in the beautiful mist, water does not connect boats, and land does not connect carts. Regardless of the chaos in the Central Plains, this is my home deep in the Peach Blossom Land.' Therefore, this place is also known as the Little Peach Blossom Land.
This place is famous for being a filming location of 'Ode to Joy 2'. The most iconic attractions are a large green lawn by the river and the longest wooden bridge in Wuyuan.

Likeng Village

This is a village with many Ming and Qing dynasty official residences. The villagers have a strong tradition of valuing education, earning praise from scholars as the 'source of Neo-Confucianism.' Plaques from major universities across the country can be seen everywhere, and there are especially many university students here for sketching.
Famous for the former village-run enterprise 'Jialu Paper Umbrella' factory, known for its colorful oil-paper umbrellas, it is a small village worth visiting.
