Gaomiao is a temple that combines three religions, located in the north of Zhongwei County. It is built on a high platform connected to the city wall (including Bao'an Temple under the platform). It has been expanded and repaired through generations and has become a large-scale ancient architectural complex since the Qing Dynasty, showing the style of ancient architecture in Ningxia. It is famous for its "miracle in the desert" and is one of the two major landscapes in Zhongwei. Gaomiao, built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, is a group of ancient buildings built according to the mountain terrain. The buildings are delicate, beautiful, and ingenious. To reach Gaomiao, one must climb the steep 24 steps. It not only enshrines Buddha and Bodhisattvas, but also Yu Huang, Holy Mother, Wen Chang, and Guan Gong. The cultures of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism converge here. The Hell Palace in Gaomiao is famous. The statues here depict various punishments in the 18 layers of hell, with dim lighting and sound effects, which can be a bit terrifying.
