This cathedral was built on the basis of the original Byzantine church, combining Romanesque design and Eastern-style towers. It was built in the early 11th century, with plain walls interrupted by many long arcades. On the eastern windows, there are many intertwined plant and animal motifs, while the large rose decorations make the church more distinctive, solemn and majestic.

The church located in the old town of Bari was built in the 12th century in the Apulian-Romanesque style and is hailed as the heart of the old town. The church was built to commemorate Saint Nicholas (also known as Santa Claus), the patron saint of prisoners and children, who is said to have miraculous myrrh flowing from his remains. The interior of the church is spacious and simple, with a wooden ceiling and a 13th-century tabernacle, one of the oldest in the Apulian region. It remains an important pilgrimage site because of the relics of Saint Nicholas. In the light, the church appears even more sacred and beautiful.
