Merlion Park

The Merlion is an iconic landmark in Singapore, located on the Singapore River in the city center. It symbolizes the country's development from a small fishing village. The design of the Merlion is inspired by a legend in the Malay Annals. In the 11th century, a prince named Sang Nila Utama saw a lion while patrolling Singapura. The lion's head on the Merlion represents that lion, and the fish tail symbolizes the ancient city of Temasek (meaning "sea" in Javanese).
