Introduction

If you haven't visited Lake Burley Griffin and witnessed the breathtaking sight of its jet fountain, then you haven't truly visited Australia's capital city, Canberra. The artificial lake, named after the former capital director, Burley Griffin, stretches more than 20 kilometers long and has a shoreline of 35 kilometers and an area of 704 hectares. The surrounding road is lined with various flowers and trees, while the water itself features a fountain built in memory of Captain Cook, which reaches an impressive height of 137 meters. No matter where you are in the city, you can see this spectacular white water column shooting up into the sky, with the water droplets and mist glistening in the sunlight and creating a rainbow-like effect. With its clear waters, stunning scenery, and ample opportunities for swimming, sailing, and fishing, Lake Burley Griffin is a must-visit destination. The lake was carved out of part of the Molonglo River and completed in 1963, along with the construction of a dam. Its elevation is 556 meters above sea level, covering an area of 6.64 square kilometers, with an average depth of 4.00 meters and a length of 11 kilometers and width of 1.2 kilometers.
