Introduction

There is an oval-shaped plaza between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, resembling an ancient outdoor amphitheater. This is the National World War II Memorial in the United States, designed to honor the 16 million American military personnel who served in World War II. After a decade of construction, the memorial was officially unveiled in 2004.
